Replacement planners are for sale with Ms. Levy and Mr. Shelby for $5.00. Each student must have a planner so they can keep track of assignments, latenesses, and bathroom passes. Get them while they last!
The 9th grade Government class would like to invite you to SLJ’s Fifth Annual Election Night on Monday, November 1! This is a night for you to decide which campaign has a more compelling argument. Students will attempt to persuade you to vote for either Andrew Cuomo or Carl Paladino for New York’s next Governor. There will be speeches made in support of these candidates, in addition to booths outling the candidate’s positions on certain issues. After hearing the speeches, visiting the booths, speaking with representatives, and reading the pamphlets, you will be able to cast your own ballot to support the best run campaign.
This event will be held in the cafeteria from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
The fall open school events will take place on Thursday, October 28 from 6:00pm-8:30pm and Friday, October 29 from 1:00pm-3:00pm at the school. This is an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s teachers to discuss their academic progress, in addition to their overall transition into high school.

All 9th grade students will be going to Prospect Park on Wednesday, October 13 for our annual Fall Community Day. Students will be dressing in their advisory colors, so they will not have to follow the dress code for the day. Once there, advisories will compete against each other in a variety of competitions. Students should report to SLJ at the normal time. We will dismiss students from Prospect Park at 2:00pm, the regular Wednesday dismissal time.

Attention all 9th graders! The Young Men’s and Young Women’s Association will be going camping on Friday, October 15-Saturday, October 16 at the Great Hollow campgrounds in Southeastern CT. If you are interested in going, please see Ms. Donahue (YWA) or Mr. Shelby (YMA) for an application. All applications are due on Friday, October 1.
Please turn in your 9th grade dues to your advisor as soon as possible! Cash or check made payable to “Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice” for $28 is appreciated!

Congratulations are in order for Brianna Hendrickson who won the 2010 LG Texting Championship! She competed with over 500,000 participants to take first place in the grand finale held in NYC on Tuesday, September 21.
